A 6-year-old girl was hospitalized with second-degree burns Monday evening after she accidentally set herself on fire while playing with a Bic lighter in Chicago.
The girl had been playing with the lighter in her grandmother's bedroom, in a home located in the 1600 block of North Laramie Avenue in the city's North Austin neighborhood, when paramedics were called to the scene around 10:30 p.m. Monday, the Chicago Tribune reports.
The girl's shirt had caught on fire before the flames spread to her body. According to ABC Chicago, she was transported to Stroger Hospital in a life support ambulance in critical condition, but her condition has since improved to serious-to-stable.
The girl sustained burns to 10 to 15 percent of her body, CBS Chicago reports.
The girl's parents were also at the home during the time of the accident, but were in another room, according to ABC.
