For 20 years, Canine Assistants has been matching highly trained service dogs with people who need an extra hand -- or paw -- to get daily tasks done.

The nonprofit's founder, Jennifer Arnold, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis as a teenager. Her father had begun planning to launch the nonprofit when he was killed by a drunk driver. Arnold decided to continue his dream in his stead.

Through a network of volunteers, donors and other supporters, the program matches up to 100 dogs with owners from across the United States each year.
