Microsoft's search engine Bing released a study on Monday, reporting the top ten most searched news stories of 2011.

Bing said the study was based on the "aggregation of billions of search queries," and highlights what they referred to as "the year’s most important people, places and moments in time."

The Casey Anthony trial ranked as the number one searched news story of the year, followed by Osama Bin Laden's death.

The remaining eight most searched news stories included natural disasters, celebrity deaths, and remembrances, including the 10-year anniversary of 9/11, and the one-year anniversary of the earthquake in Haiti.
