An Israeli soldier known only as "Corporal S" was jailed today after humiliating photos of Palestinian prisoners were found on his cell phone, reports the AP. The photos, which surfaced during a drug investigation, show the soldier pointing a rifle at a detained Palestinian.

Haaretz has previously reported that this is one of a string of incidents in which Israeli soldiers have posted disturbing images of themselves with Palestinian prisoners. Eden Abergil, a former Israeli soldier, caused a furor this summer when she posted Facebook photos of herself posing with Palestinian prisoners, for one. Only a month ago, a video showing an Israeli soldier dancing next to a blindfolded Palestinian woman also sparked controversy (video below). Many of the incidents, however, concern former soldiers like Abergil, who cannot be prosecuted six months after they are discharged, notes Haaretz.

Corporal S is the first soldier to be jailed for such an offense, according to the BBC. He will serve five months.
