DuPage County GOP Chairman and Illinois state Rep. Randy Ramey issued a statement Tuesday apologizing for a DUI citation he received early Sunday morning.
Ramey was pulled over on his way home from a restaurant and bar for improper lane usage after police observed him crossing the center line, Suburban Life reports. A breathalyzer test registered his blood-alcohol content at 0.17 percent, more than twice the legal limit.
“I regret and take full responsibility for my actions, and I am prepared to face the consequences,” Ramey said in a statement. “I am deeply sorry to disappoint my family and my constituents.”
Ramey, 48, has represented Illinois' 55th House district, which includes West Chicago and Carol Stream, where Ramey is a resident. This year's redistricting repositions him into the 45th House district, where he will face Republican incumbent Franco Coladipietro in the 2012 election, according to the Suburban Life. He was appointed as the DuPage County Republican Chair this summer, though his position won't be permanent unless he is elected at the April GOP convention.
Ramey was alone at the time of his citation, the Daily Herald reports.
