Federal Government Sued After Colorado Veterans Hospital Leaves Clamp In Man's Body

The federal government is being sued for accidentally leaving a clamp inside a patient's body and neglecting to tell the veteran for 6 months.

Richard Kellar, an Army veteran from Parker, Colorado underwent open heart surgery in 2005 for a coronary artery bypass. The surgery went off without a hitch, until doctors concluded the procedure and couldn't find a clamp. They closed Kellar up anyway, and neglected to tell him he had a paperclip-sized medal clamp embedded in his body near his heart.

Kellar, who discovered the clip 6 months later while undergoing an MRI, now wants $15 million dollars in damages. The case will go to trial in March.
