Lady Gaga’s Super Bowl LI halftime show lasted for 13 glorious minutes and included a subtle yet poignant political statement at the beginning of her performance.

Before jumping off the stadium roof, Gaga started with a soulful few verses of “God Bless America” and “This Land Is Your Land.” The lines echoed what the entertainer has described as the core mission of her work: “equality” and “inclusion.” Gaga also performed “Born This Way,” an anthem that celebrates individuality, authenticity and her pro-LGBTQ worldview.

The message resonated with former Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, who tweeted her support of the artist and show.

Earlier this week, the NFL denied reports that the organization did not want Gaga to make any political statements during her halftime show. Gaga said her performance would include the same messages she has been making throughout her career: “I believe in the spirit of equality, and that the spirit of this country is one of love and compassion and kindness,” she said.
