Joe Montana Skechers Ad: Super Bowl Commercial Stars 49ers Legend (VIDEO)

Joe Montana Wears Skechers?

Although he didn't get in the game, 49ers icon Joe Montana saw some action during Super Bowl XLVII. The former NFL star, who had a knack for rising to the occasion in the final minutes of big games, starred in a new ad for Skechers.

In the new commercial, Montana expounded on the comfort of Skechers' new relaxed fit shoe while holding a football. But in the middle of his monologue, a man came out of nowhere, snatched the ball from Montana's hands and tried running away.

He didn't get far, however, as a former teammate of Montana's, defensive back Ronnie Lott, made a hard tackle and delivered the ball back to the Hall of Fame quarterback.

Many of the initially reactions to the ad on Twitter fell into two categories. 1) Why Joe? 2) Montana might be able to help the 49ers.

As the San Francisco 49ers and Baltimore Ravens battled for the right to lift the Lombardi Trophy, Super Bowl advertisers competed for another prize: your attention. Each time that CBS cut away from Super Bowl XLVII to pay the bills (or because the lights went out), another group of blockbuster commercials and movie trailers were unveiled (although many had been teased). At your Super Bowl party, were people paying closer attention during the game or the commercial breaks?

While memorable Super Bowl commercials like Apple's '1984' and Snickers' spot that featured Betty White will be remembered so many more are soon forgotten or, even worse, ridiculed as super fails. Will this ad make this year's best list? Is it controversial? Or, even worse, destined to be forgotten?
