The woman who was left in critical condition after being struck in the head by a Target shopping cart in October says she is not angry about the attack, but concerned for the two children who tossed the cart.
A person close to Marion Hedges, a 47-year old mother and philanthropist, told The Post:
Her concerns are more about the economic conditions that created that situation - what's going on with these moms...She doesn't want media attention. The key to her is for people to give their time to those in need.
A surveillance video showed two twelve-year old boys playing atop the East River Plaza Mall, trying to lift the cart over the rail. NYPD officers were able to use the footage to arrest the children, with one of the boys eventually pleading guilty to the brutal assault in November.
Following his admittance, the boy wrote a letter apologizing to Hedges and said, "I did not mean to hurt you. My actions were stupid. I hope you feel better. Let me know if there's anything I can do for you."
Hedges was left in a coma and suffered serious brain damage. The source close to Hedges says she still struggles to care for herself and detailed the effects of the injuries, "She's not the same person. Talking to her is like talking to a 9-year-old or a 90-year-old. She gets emotional and forgets things quickly. There is short-term memory loss."
