The CTA Red Line's southern branch wasn't even reopened a full 24 hours after its five-month reconstruction project when a semi truck crashed through a cement barrier and landed on the recently-replaced tracks.
About 10 p.m. Sunday, a truck traveling southbound on the Dan Ryan Expressway jumped onto the tracks just north of the 69th Street station, damaging the line's third rail and leaving behind debris that temporarily delayed overnight trains, NBC Chicago reports.
No injuries were reported in the crash, but the crash site remains a slow zone Monday morning as trains are traveling 35 mph until the rail is replaced Monday night, the Chicago Tribune reports.
Meanwhile, the rest of the Red Line's revamped southern branch got its first weekday rush-hour test Monday. Despite residual delays, the morning commute appears to have gone off without any major hitches.
