If you were watching Super Bowl XLIX on Sunday night and tweeting thoughts about the New England Patriots and the Seattle Seahawks, you were not alone.

According to Twitter, more than 28.4 million tweets about the football game were sent on the social media network, making #SB49 the most tweeted @SuperBowl ever. (Last year's matchup generated just 24.9 million tweets.)

The most-mentioned @Patriots players were Tom Brady, Rob Gronkowski and Julian Edelman.

The @Seahawks players who had fans talking included Marshawn Lynch, Russell Wilson and Chris Matthews.

While Seattle lost the game by four points, the team kept it classy, sending this tweet to the victors:
