In the fascinating chain of emails that runs in Wednesday's Chicago Tribune under the headline, "Clout gets a job," is the name David Ikenberry, who is identified as chairman of the U of I's department of finance.
Ikenberry is one of the U of I people whom Urbana-Champaign Chancellor Richard Herman asked to help him grease the skids so that the university's board chairman, Niranjan Shah, could win a six-figure job for his son-in-law-to-be. Ikenberry, whose impressive resume
includes a PhD from the U of I and previously taught at Rice University, is the son of former U of I president Stanley O. Ikenberry. An interesting connection that I thought worthy of notice.
I cannot link to the "Clout gets a job" piece of the story that leads Wednesday's "Chicagoland" section because it's not on line, or at least I can't find it. Here's the accompanying story, "E-mails illustrate extent of job help."
