The walk-up taco spot is becoming something of a Chicago institution. Big Star has staked its claim to Wicker Park and Bucktown, and now a heavy hitter in the Chicago Mexican food scene is taking the concept to Lincoln Park.

Taco Joint Urban Taqueria and Cantina will be located at 1969 N. Halsted St. and plans to open in mid- to late-November. The new on-the-go dining experience comes from Edgar Castaneda, owner of River North's celebrated Zocalo.

Following up on the small-plate concept from his previous venture, Castaneda's new walk-up will offer tacos, flautas, and other Mexican street fare.

Castaneda is hoping to receive his liquor license for the Taco Joint in mid-December, according to Chicago magazine. So the taco window could be enhanced with a full restaurant and bar by the end of the year.

Either way, we're perfectly happy with a new place for tacos to go -- at least until we get some food trucks (we're looking at you, City Council).
