Obama 'Overexposed' Again!

Obama 'Overexposed' Again!

If you've been unfortunate or needy enough to be aware of the ongoing relationship between the Obama administration and the political media, then you know how the story goes. For a long, long time, the media complains that the president is not making enough media appearances. And then, once the president starts making media appearances, they complain that he's overexposed. And then the White House pulls back and the cycle begins anew.

Well, President Obama went on "The View" this week, so I bet you know what part of this lifecycle we're in at the moment.

Overexposed, again? Also today, Obama tapes his appearance on "The View." That appearance -- plus even his new video on Web MD explaining the health-care law and how to use HealthCare.Gov -- has once furthered a narrative that the president is overexposed. (If you'll recall, we had this same discussion last year after Obama went on Leno, etc.)

Wait, wait! Dig that parenthetical! Is it possible that the media is becoming self-aware?

There is a potential danger here, and it does highlight the fact that there really isn't another key spokesman in the administration to talk about the economy or health care.

Of course, if such a spokesman were to be presented to the media for their approval, the conversation would inevitably lapse into creeping-czar paranoia. But let's see where this is going.

But as the White House reminds us, the media world is now so diffuse (TV, newspaper, Web, cable Twitter, Facebook) that Obama has to do more than his predecessors ever did. That's the reality.

I think that there's supposed to be a comma between "cable" and "Twitter," (unless by "cable Twitter" we are referring to CNN).

So while folks INSIDE THE BELTWAY believe he's over-exposed, and those folks that watch a lot of cable TV might believe he's overexposed, ask the working parent of two if they think the same thing.

I think that's pretty spot on, but on the other hand, maybe the media could ask "working parents of two" a question that's actually relevant to their lives, once in a while?
