Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir

Icelandic political scientist and feminist

Silja Bára Ómarsdóttir is adjunct professor at the Faculty of Political Science at the University of Iceland where she teaches international politics and negotiations. She is currently conducting research on the development of Icelandic security policy in the context of Nordic, European, and transatlantic organizations, and on the influence of women’s movements on Icelandic foreign policy. Ms. Ómarsdóttir holds an MA degree in International Relations from the University of Southern California, where she also pursued doctoral studies. She previously completed a BA with honors in international affairs from Lewis & Clark College in Portland, Oregon. She is a women’s rights activist and has served on the boards of the Icelandic Feminist Association, The Icelandic Women’s Rights Association, and the UNIFEM National Committee in Iceland, and currently sits on the Icelandic Gender Equality Council.
