We have all heard these phrases: " You are your worst enemy," and "You are you worst critic."
I am here to ask why?
I am someone who has repeatedly told myself those two phrases. Sometimes I wonder if I use it as an excuse to not be the best I can be or make up for my shortcomings. Why is there even a reason to use those phrases if we are perfectly happy and content with the individuals that we are? When we really and truly should be.
You are the only you. The one and only version of yourself and I am the only me; so that in itself should be enough to feel confident one would think.
For example, when someone buys a one of a kind purse they feel amazing walking around with the one and only purse like it while others "ooh and ah" over it and constantly asking, "Where did you get that?"
How about when you go out and buy a new vehicle that you know not many people have yet, it may not be one of a kind but you catch my drift. Even those one of a kind purchases can easily be duplicated and as unique as they may be are they even close to how one of a kind you or I am?
So how come when it comes to ourselves, the all original, one of a kind us we are never fully content and looking for something to alter or change. Is it because we are satisfied and wanting to be the best we can be? Or is it because we are never satisfied and are trying to find fulfillment in altering ourselves, because don't forget "you are your worst critic."
I think I would rather have others judge me harder then I judge myself. I don't have to see those people everyday, talk to them or live with them. Myself on the other hand, at the end of the day is really the only thing I am 100 percent certain I have now and will have tomorrow. So wouldn't it make sense to not be my worst critic or worst enemy and make myself my very best friend? The voice of reason and encouragement that says, "It's OK, you did a great job because you tried," "That color is great because you are wearing it," or "You can do it!."
We need to love ourselves and loving yourself does not mean just your exterior. The outside of you is just a part of who you are not nearly the be all and end all of your being. Yes, it is the first thing someone sees when they look in your direction but so what! When we look into our own eyes there should be no doubt that we love what we see. That heart, mind and soul is something to celebrate. All original, one of a kind, you.
