Will Amanda Knox return to an Italian court? It's unlikely. Yet the Seattle native may serve as a witness to defend her parents, Curt Knox and Edda Mellas, who are facing charges for defaming five Italian police officers, ABC reports.

"Amanda will probably not come back to Italy,'' Carlo Dalla Vedova, Knox's attorney, told ABC. "If she has to testify, she will probably do so via video conference, which is allowed."

Perugia police accused Knox's parents of libel over an interview with the Sunday Times in which Knox's father said that police had physically and verbally abused his daughter during questioning. The police have denied the accusations.

According to the Associated Press, a hearing in the case was scheduled for Friday but had been postponed because key witnesses were not able to attend. The meeting was rescheduled for January 24.

Knox is the only witness expected to defend her parents, ABC writes.

Last year, 24-year-old Amanda Knox was released from prison after a Perugia court overturned an earlier conviction of murder. The court cleared Knox and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito of the brutal slaying of their former British roommate Meredith Kercher.
