Some exciting animal announcements took place this week. Wood bison, which disappeared a century ago from the Alaskan wilderness, will be reintroduced into the lower Yukon River territory by 2014. Meanwhile, Simba, a lion who once lived with the royal family of Qatar, was given to the Detroit Zoo.
Unfortunately, a number of upsetting events occurred as well. In South Carolina, tens of thousands of dead fish washed up on shore... two times in a week. According to Sergeant Steve Pop, a phenomenon called “hypoxia” is responsible for the worrisome deaths. Sadly, a baby humpback whale died this week off the coast of Kawaikui Beach in Hawaii. Booboo the grizzly bear cub escaped from his Florida home, but was found a few days later.
