Chicago authorities are investigating the death of a person whose charred body was discovered in a Northwest Side trash bin late Sunday evening.
Fire crews made the discovery after responding to an alley fire in the 3100 block of North Kimball in the city's Avondale neighborhood around 11 p.m., ABC Chicago reports.
Firefighters extinguished the flames only to find the body lying in the trash container; authorities say it wasn't immediately clear if the person died in the fire or if the body had been placed in the trash bin after death, according to the Sun-Times.
According to the Tribune, authorities said the body was burned beyond recognition. There was no ID on the body, though an autopsy is scheduled for Monday.
Police are classifying the matter as a death investigation rather than a homicide investigation.
Sunday evening's discovery is one of several reports of burned bodies found in the city over past few months.
In April, a body was found burned in a garage on the Northwest Side in Irving Park. In November, a man's badly-burned body was discovered in another Northwest Side dumpster in Logan Square.
