Adopt These Cute Cats With No Adoption Fees
Open Image Modal

Meow -- are you looking for a new cat to love during cat adoption month?

During the month of June, many D.C.-area shelters are waiving cat adoption fees, especially for older cats. The Animal Welfare League of Alexandria is holding a "Summer Olympicat Adoption Event" through June 30, waiving adoption fees for cats two years and older. The Washington Humane Society is also waiving fees for cats two and older.

The Washington Animal Rescue League is waiving fees for cats six months old and up -- and on Saturday, this is really almost too cute to bear, they're holding their "kitten shower," during which they'll collect donated kitten supplies and give out information about their kitten foster program.

The kitties in the slideshow below are all available for adoption, with no fees. Let us know if you bring one home!

America is a 3-year-old female who just finished raising an adopted litter. She settles into homes very quickly and can't get enough human lovin's! As a recent mother, America can be a little protective of her space. She's looking for a human who will be all hers and give her run of the house. America is in foster care now, through the Washington Humane Society. If you think you want to be her best friend forever, call or email her human Colbie at (202) 361-0608 / colbiempaulson@yahoo.com. I'm Prescott, a 3-year-old male. I may seem a little shy, but don't worry, I'll warm up with a little time, patience, and lots of chin scratches! I'm ready to go to a new home that has lots of time to give me love and affection, and definitely some time to play with me. If you think you'd be a good new family for me, stop by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandra and visit. (credit:AWLA)
Carboni(04 of28)
Open Image Modal
Carboni is a sweet and saucy, 3-year-old solo cat. He came to the Washington Humane Society adoption center after his owner could no longer afford to keep him. But he is no high maintenance cat! Carboni would be more than satisfied to simply snuggle up with his new family members, relax, and enjoy the good life. He would do best in a home where he is the apple of everyone's eye and his light "chirps" are answered by his new forever folks ("I don't really enjoy other cats all"). All he needs is that special someone. Could it be you? Get in touch with the Washington Humane Society to meet this guy. (credit:WHS)

Frankie prefers to come up to you to play, and he needs a little bit to warm up to his surroundings due to his curious nature, but is a great playmate. Come down to the the Washington Humane Society and place him on your lap and see how curious and aware he is. Frankie's one smart dude! (credit:WHS)

My name is Bianca, I am an 8-year-old female cat and I just love to be loved. Sometimes it takes me a little while to warm up to new people, but with a scratch under the chin we'll be friends in no time. One thing about me, though - I really don't like to share my owner's attention with any other animals! I tried in my last home, but I just couldn't learn how to share, so I am looking to be an only pet. If I sound like the girl for you, come to the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria and see me. Hey there! I'm Alexis, I'm five years old and female, and I'm one lovable and charming feline. I enjoy the simple things in life, like yummy food, a soft bed in front of a sunny window, and a good catnip toy. I also like to be brushed -- it keeps my coat so soft and clean! Small children can be a little too much for me to handle, but there's nothing I love more than affection from my grown-up human friends! El Paso(16 of28)

Wind and El Paso are two stunning medium hair cats. Although they came to the Washington Animal Rescue League from different places, they've formed a strong bond and would love to go to a forever home together, if possible. El Paso is a 2-year-old, orange-and-white tabby. He's very social and loves to be stroked. Wind, a 5-year-old tuxedo cat, is more of a wallflower and can be a bit shy around new people, although he appreciates attention from humans he trusts. Both love toys, especially the feather wand and circular track with a ball in it, and enjoy playing with each other. Then, when they're tired, they'll curl up together. If you have a place in your heart and home for two fantastic felines, contact the Washington Animal Rescue League. (credit:WARL)
Mister(17 of28)
Open Image Modal
Meet Mister. This 5-year-old brown tabby is a truly special boy. First and foremost, this large, handsome cat is an absolute love bug who wants nothing more than to socialize. He adores having his incredibly soft fur stroked and will curl up in your lap for a quick cat nap when the opportunity arises. You simply couldn't find a nicer cat. Mister is also a "special" needs cat because he is FIV positive. This does NOT mean he's unadoptable! What it does mean is that his immune system is not as effective as that of most other cats so his overall health should be monitored more closely. With appropriate veterinary care, he could easily live to 15 years or more. Although Mister cannot transmit his illness to dogs or people, he could "share" it with another cat, so he needs a home where he can live by himself...or with another FIV-positive feline. Either way, he's sure to bring joy to the lucky person who adopts him.Get to know Mister through the Washington Animal Rescue League. (credit:WARL)
Monkey(18 of28)

I'm Monkey, and I'm six years old. I recently returned from a one of the shelter's foster homes where I was recovering from a burn wound on my back. The shelter people don't know how the burn happened and I don't like to think about it so I'm keeping my mouth shut. My foster family would tell you that I am a playful, affectionate lap cat. I have great litter box manners and I'm easy-going. I like to cuddle and will sleep on your bed at night if you let me. I'm happy to be on my own during the day. I take a while to warm up to new people but once I settle into a new situation I'm a great companion. I'll be honest, I'm probably not the best choice for a home with very young children as I don't like my paws and tail touched. Other than that, I'm PURRFECT! Come on by the Animal Welfare League of Alexandria to meet me. I may be in an office when you arrive so if you don't see me please ask the staff to find me. See you soon! (credit:AWLA)

I'm a pretty great cat. I'm almost three years old, the type of guy that is always up for anything. Whether it is play time or nap time, you choose the activity and I'll gladly participate. I'm a big fan of sunny window sills or screened in porches -- as long as I can hang around and watch the birds, I'm content. Plus, it gives me something to do while you're away at work so I don't get bored. When you finally come home, guess who will always be there to greet you? I just know that I can be a great friend if you're willing to take the chance on me. I can't wait to start our life-long adventure together, can you?
