Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL 23rd District) recently took some time out of her busy schedule to sit down for an interview with SiriusXM Radio to discuss a number of issues -- including how she handled talking about what it means to be gay with her children.
Recalling a story from when her son was in the 4th grade, Wasserman Schultz, shares a question her son once asked -- prompted by a television commercial: "Mom, what does being gay mean?"
Wasserman Schultz's response is wonderful. "I [was] standing on a crossroads here in my child's life," she stated. "This is the moment when people either turn their children into bigots and narrow-minded individuals or they have an opportunity to open their eyes to tolerance. Of course, I had always intended to choose tolerance and understanding."
Check out the above clip to hear her whole response to her son, including the way it impacted him and his views regarding lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender individuals later in life.
