You may love your job, but filmmaker Rob Spence has taken his craft to another level.
Spence injured his eye as a child and has since replaced it with a prosthetic camera eye. This technological feat was named one of Time Magazine's "Best Inventions of the Year."
Spence and his team looked to cell phone camera technology when crafting the minute eye-cam. Amazingly, the entire device fits into his socket and packs in a camera, wireless transmitter, and a battery. The captured images are then beamed to any recording device he connects his receiver to.
No, he is not a cybernetic borg with superhuman capabilities. With the blink of an eye, he can not switch into telescopic vision or shoot lasers from the device. No, it does not send video to his brain with an AI facial recognition overlay a-la Terminator. Hardwiring the eye-cam into his optic-nerve would be impressive yet currently impossible. He hopes that by 2027 bionic prosthetic technology will be commonplace.
Examples can already be seen with a deaf woman hearing herself for the first time via a cochlear implant or a man controlling a robotic arm with his thoughts.
