Indie band Ted Leo and the Pharmacists plays the Sacred Heart Church tonight for a good cause. All proceeds go to the National Day Laborer Organizing Network and We Are Family DC, which help out day laborers and the elderly respectively. It's somewhat of a homecoming for the band, which was founded in D.C. in another millennia. Funny, 1999 doesn't seem that long ago. Tickets are $12 or $10 with two canned goods. 6 p.m., 3211 Pine St. NW.Photo by Flickr user bill shouldis (credit:Flickr user bill shouldis)

This afternoon, catch a matinee performance the Washington National Opera's stunning production of Lucia di Lammermoor at the Kennedy Center Opera House. A fair warning: It's not for the squeamish among us. The opera's namesake, Lucia, goes nutso and winds up killing her bridegroom. Be prepared for a lot of fake blood. Tickets run between $25 and $300. 2 p.m., 2700 F St. NW. (credit:Scott Suchman for WNO)
