Halloween In West Hollywood: The Best Costumes Of 2010

Besides superheroes, women in lingerie, and classic monsters like Dracula, Halloween costumes are a good way to gauge the best and worst of the year. At the West Hollywood Halloween Carnaval, there were Chilean Miners, Steven Slater (disgruntled Jet Blue employee), Jimi Heselden (deceased owner of Segway Inc.), Lady Gagas galore, Antoine Dodson (of the "Bed Intruder" song) Tea Party protestors, LeBron James, a gaggle of food trucks, the Na'vi of Avatar, and lots of lace. The air was filled with the scent of bacon-wrapped hot dogs, beer, and premature celebrations of Proposition 19's passage.

The West Hollywood Carnaval also celebrated the 35th anniversary of the Rocky Horror Picture Show with a coordinated Time Warp dance at 10:45pm to close out the celebration. After being assured by event planners that the revelers had indeed broken the world record for the largest Time Warp dance, the music shut off promptly at 11pm as promised. Playboy bunnies, pirates, cavemen, and witches trudged back to their cars along Santa Monica Boulevard, but some lingered on at restaurants like Mexico and Hamburger Mary's to keep the party going.
