The state's high school class of 2008 posted slightly lower average scores on the SAT exam this year, slipping in all three tested subjects, but Illinois still dramatically surpassed the national average, according to a report released Tuesday.
Many educators lauded the results, but noted the number of SAT test-takers in Illinois continued to decline. Because the SAT traditionally is favored by East Coast colleges, many surmise that those who take the exam in Illinois tend to be high-achieving students vying for entry into top colleges and universities.
