In its first year of operation, the Jalen Rose Leadership Academy has found itself in the rare position of having more applicants than available slots.

"And that just pains me to see certain families that want to attend a quality school that aren't able to," Rose told MLive by phone last week.

The Academy, like other schools across Metro Detroit, is in the midst of a heavy enrollment push as it tries to lure students and parents in a changing educational environment.
