About a year ago, the New York Times ran a lengthy profile about an up-and-coming stand-up comic, getting a handful of big breaks in the world he described as "alt-comedy," the world of Aziz Ansari, Donald Glover and Zach Galifianakis.

That comic, Kumail Nanjiani, is returning to Chicago, where he got his start at Second City and the Cubby Bear, for one night only.

He'll be playing at the Hideout on Sunday night, before starting work on his upcoming TNT sitcom "Franklin & Bash."

Nanjiani acted and wrote for Comedy Central's "Michael and Michael Have Issues," starring Michael Ian Black and Michael Showalter. He has also appeared on "The Colbert Report," "The Late Show with David Letterman," and on NPR's "This American Life."

Ahead of his Sunday night gig, where he'll share the stage with local standups Joselyn Hughes, Adam Burke and Beth Stelling, he gave a hilarious interview to Chicagoist. If that's not enough to convince you to check him out, scroll down for video of Nanjiani's stand-up.
