This is it. The last weekend of summer 2012. Just because you don't have some jaunty getaway planned doesn't mean you can't live it up right here around NYC.

We plan on gorging on fresh crab, dancing the day and night away (kids and dogs welcome), going for a ride on a schooner, catching and releasing, taking down an ice cream cone (or two), attending the ultimate barbeque, and taking a much-needed dip in the pool.

On Saturday, September 1, Governors Island will become Pig Island. That means 80 locally-sourced hogs will be prepared by 25 NYC chefs, and you will get to enjoy all the swine you can possibly eat (and all the Sixpoint craft beers you can drink), all while jamming out to live music. It's been a while since there were any scuffles at the glorious new McCarren Park Pool, so it seems as good a time as any to check it out and go for a swim. Especially since it closes for the season after this weekend.
