"After being named one of NME's best new bands of last year, Los Angeles-based indie upstarts Grouplove kick off a four-week residency at the Bootleg Theater tonight. The jangly five-piece channels a love of sun and surf via influences like the Pixies and Modest Mouse, and has already appeared as the opening act for Florence and the Machine's recent West Coast shows. Unrestrained vocals, loose harmonies, and quirky rhymes challenge dour sentiment, making Grouplove's music an ideal antidote to the storms of winter.” -C. max10 Performance Laboratory, created by Cid Pearlman, David King, and Marcus Kuiland-Lozario, is that perfect place to go to watch performers experiment artistically right in front of your eyes. During this first show of 2011, ten performers will each get ten minutes--and only ten minutes--to perform any type of creative piece. In past years, people like actor Sir Ian McKellen have been known to grace the lab with their presence, so head there tonight to catch some of LA's most creative performances.max10 Performance Laboratory at Electric LodgeWhen: Monday, Jan 3, 7:30pmWhere: Electric Lodge, 1416 Electric Avenue, VeniceCost: $10Photo by Electric Lodge
