Manassas Trends On Twitter As Residents Slam Their Hometown

Manassas Residents Tear Into Hometown In Trendy Twitter Rant

WASHINGTON -- For some reason in the magical world of Twitter, #welcometomanassas was trending in the D.C. region for a time on Monday.

What could have sparked a trend about the Northern Virginia town about 30 miles west of the nation's capital? That's not exactly clear. But there was certainly a lot of chatter about the Prince William County locale.

What makes Manassas special? Civil War buffs know the town as being the site of two major battles, including the first large-scale engagement of the war in 1861. It's also where George Zimmerman grew up. Lorena and John Wayne Bobbitt once lived there, too. So did the "Blond Bandit."

Sifting through the various #welcometomanassas tweets, The Huffington Post found that there wasn't much love for the town but plenty of knocks on its citizens. We've culled some of the more colorful tweets, excluding the most insensitive ones. (But there may be a few that might offend more sensitive eyes.)
