National Cathedral Dean's Pro-Gay Remarks Discussed On 'The Rubin Report'

What Impact Will National Cathedral Dean's Pro-Gay Words Have In The Long Run?
|

Rev. Gary Hall's pro-gay proclamation last week is already garnering heaps of praise from lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights advocates nationwide.

Dissecting the National Cathedral dean's somewhat surprising words on "The Rubin Report" were Turner Classic Movies host Ben Mankiewicz and actress/"Pop Trigger" co-host Bree Essrig.

"I think he heard the Pope and he thought, 'I don't want to be left out,'" Mankiewicz told host Dave Rubin. "Even though it's a different religion, [the Pope] has opened up a window."

Added Essrig: "I just wish that people would separate this from politics and from religion in general ... it is normal, so why can't people just let it be normal?"

"Homophobia is a sin. Heterosexism is a sin. Shaming people for whom they love is a sin," Dean Hall said in a Sunday sermon Oct. 6. "Only when all our churches say that clearly and boldly and courageously will our LGBT youth be free to grow up in a culture that totally embraces them fully as they are."
