With a needed U.S. presidential permit finally in hand, the project to build a new bridge between Detroit and Windsor will now begin its seven-year march to completion.

But don't expect to see steel rising against the sky for awhile yet. The next two years will be consumed with land acquisition, design and engineering work, relocation of utility lines and all the legal work necessary for the project to move ahead.
