The New York Daily News headline: With superfan Barack Obama leading cheers, White Sox now America's team

Uh-huh.

From writer Bill Madden: "For more than 100 years, the Chicago White Sox have had to live as second-class citizens to the Cubs in the Windy City, while, nationally, they had a fan base and recognition factor equal to that of the Houston Astros or San Diego Padres."

We all know the first part is accurate -- but I wouldn't say the Sox are in the same league (so to speak) as the Astros or the Padres. As a charter franchise of the American League, the Sox have a lot more history than the Astros (founded as the Colt .45s in 1962) or the Padres, who were born in 1969. We've got the Black Sox and Shoeless Joe, the Go-Go Sox and Disco Demolition, the South Side Hitmen and the Big Hurt and the 2005 World Series.
