Joking about shooting Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney is no laughing matter, as one Ohio student found out the hard way Monday, the Associated Press reports.

An instructor at Lorain County Community College Elyria, Ohio, called authorities Monday after overhearing student Shaquille Brown say he wanted to leave class to shoot Romney, was in the swing state campaigning in Avon Lake, a 20-minute drive from the college.

According to a police report, Brown was overheard saying to other students, "Can we leave? Because Romney is in town and I want to go shoot him."

Brown, 19, was charged with inducing panic, a low-level felony. According to News Net 5, Brown said he wasn't serious and said he doesn't own a gun.

After Brown was taken to jail, he was questioned by the secret service, which protects presidential candidates.
