LOS ANGELES (KTLA) -- More than 7,000 Los Angeles Unified School District employees are facing layoffs due to budget cuts, and angry students are planning to stage walkouts at several schools in protest Friday.

At Belvedere Middle School in East L.A., an eighth grade student named Jenny spoke to KTLA early Friday morning about a protest planned for before school.

"This all started when my teacher told us there's a chance she might not be here next year," Jenny said. "We thought, 'Wow, without her, this school will be nothing.'"
