Governments who support “religious freedom” over the equal human rights and dignity of others condone, and even endorse discrimination.
My Pakistani Muslim friends are peace-loving people. I admire their strong sense of honor and the respect that they show for my Catholic beliefs. The relationship that I have with these Pakistanis makes Sunday's attack even more appalling to me.
I bring up this theological debate from a generation ago because of a recent billboard, put up by Ask-a-Muslim.com, that proclaims "Jesus is a Muslim."
Turning the other cheek does not condone the wrong of the other, but it affords us an opportunity in our responses to break cycles of violence by not sowing more violence.
