Major League Baseball has opened a formal investigation into illegal gambling and theft allegations involving Los Angeles Dodgers star Shohei Ohtani’s interpreter, Ippei Mizuhara.

Interpreter Ippei Mizuhara was fired after questions arose around $4.5 million in wire transfers made to a SoCal bookie now being investigated by the feds.
Prosecutors said Katherine Emel told a robber that her boyfriend had recently won $3,000 gambling and used a tracking device to give the thief his location.
"We live in a real different world right now,” Iowa football coach Kirk Ferentz said.
“I think we would be naïve if this was the only incident like this that has happened," one observer said after the Alabama betting scandal was revealed.
Some of the players received indefinite bans for betting on the games.
The coach is appealing the NFL's suspension, his attorney said.
