Police said Tristan Beaudette's two young daughters may have been in a tent with him when he was shot.
“I’ve been in the fire service for over 30 years, and I’m horrified at what I’ve seen," said Cal Fire public information officer Jerry Fernandez.
The Cessna reportedly was approaching John Wayne Airport in Orange County.
