Like puppies, kittens aren't for everyone.

They can be eager to use their pretty new claws on your pretty furniture (or worse, your arms!) and be filled with more curiosity than perhaps you're willing to deal with.

Older cats can be a little easier to handle: some already have the litter box figured out, many are considerably calmer than kittens, and--for those of you who have a specific persona in mind for your future companion--sometimes the shelter can already clue you in about the cat's personality.

Check out our picks of adoptable cats this week!
