Art Wynwood Holds A Mirror Up To Miami's Arts District (PHOTOS)

PHOTOS: Art Wynwood Did Not Disappoint

Last night, art purveyors tried to prove that there's an audience for art fairs in Miami beyond the week of Art Basel Miami Beach.

Art Wynwood opened its white tent to VIP and press, promising an art showcase that would reflect the "urban, high-energy" vibe of the Wynwood Arts District. And that it did.

Goldman Properties sponsored artist Ron English to present camo woodland murals throughout the pavilion, while giant graffiti murals hang over the VIP lounge.

There is a corridor of local video art, highlighting a medium that Miami artists do so well.

Most all of Miami's hard-hitting galleries have exhibits from Bernice Steinbaum to Bakehouse Art Complex.

Last night, Legal Art even had a parade of neon leotard ladies traipsing through the fair; their tap shoes' clicks echoing throughout the halls.

Wynwood Arts District Association is exhibiting a 360 degree view of the arts neighborhood, a panoramic photograph curved into a sphere. It shows the progression of mechanics found south on NW Second Avenue to the gallerists a few blocks north.

While the work was indeed younger and edgier, the crowd of VIP and press proved more Palm Beach than Wynwood.

It will be interesting to see who and how many show up for the rest of the Art Wynwood, which runs until Monday.
