July's Dining Highlights

This Brazilian catering company, well loved for its Sunday brunch, is now open during the week. Go for an excellent--and inexpensive--lunchtime feast of simmered black beans, hearts of palm salad, coconut-milk-braised shrimp and superb fried plantains. North Pond(02 of05)

It's easy to overlook the 14-year-old North Pond, what with so many shiny new restaurants to try. To do so would be a mistake. This Lincoln Park classic is home to elegant, compelling seasonal cuisine--and a creative new pastry chef, too. North Pond2610 North Cannon Drive (credit:North Pond)
Yusho(03 of05)

At Yusho, the Sunday-morning starch of choice is noodles, not pancakes. Head to Logan Square for five varieties of Japanese-inspired noodles, including classic pork ramen, and cold soba noodles with a side of fried chicken drumsticks. Each comes with a brunch-friendly cocktail and a bowl of soft-serve for dessert. Yusho2853 North Kedzie Avenue (credit:Tasting Table)

Unusual flavor combinations, smart cocktails and striking design make this new Wicker Park restaurant from brothers Mike and Pat Sheerin a hit. I'll be returning soon to sip celery-gin cocktails, twirl garlicky sepia noodles with pickled watermelon, and drag more pickle-studded tater tots through red-onion yogurt. Trenchermen2039 W. Don't miss the tender, flavorful anticuchos (grilled beef hearts) at this Peruvian BYOB in Logan Square. Locally raised beef is marinated in vinegar, chile and beer before a turn on the grill, and we've been back twice this month. 4 Suyos2727 West Fulllerton Avenue (credit:Tasting Table)
