Claire Riley of Perth, Scotland, acknowledges that someone had to die for her to live, but says receiving an organ can give someone a new lease on life. Riley was 27 and newly married when she was diagnosed with ulcer colitis, needing a liver transplant to survive.
She's now promoting the "Spare Clare" campaign, urging others to list themselves as organ donors, and potentially save a life after passing away.
John Forsythe, Scotland's lead clinician for organ donation and transplantation, said organ donor numbers had begun to rise in Scotland over the past few years.
He said: "This means that people like Claire, who otherwise face a bleak outlook with organ failure, are given the opportunity of life through transplantation.
Now a mother of two, Riley wants individuals to think about the possibility of a family member or close friend needing an organ.
