The DeLorean, Back To The Future's Time Machine, Is Now A Bike

Great Scott! The DeLorean Is Now A Bike

This DeLorean may never get up to 88 miles per hour, but "Back to the Future" fans will still be interested. While the car made famous by time-travel trilogy won’t be back until 2013, this time as an electric car, in the meantime you can spend a little less for its two wheeled counterpart. The DeLorean’s stainless steel charm -- now made from Italian Columbus XCR stainless steel tubing -- has been revived in bicycle form by bicycle maker Marc Moore and Stephen Wynne, the president of the new, Texas-based incarnation of DeLorean Motor.

The first model of the DeLorean bike will be the “Anyday”, an 11-speed bike with “luminescent” coated wheels that “appear to turn on” when lights shine on them. The Anyday’s auto counterpart fetched $25,000 in the early 1980s, and the bike is no bargain either. This DeLorean revision will cost a -- great Scott! -- hefty $5,500.

The price is in line with its creators understanding that the DeLorean brand has often been an acquired taste. “It’s a bicycle that bike aficionados can look at and say, ‘Yes, that’s cool, and it’s got all of the right equipment on it,’” Wynne told Bloomberg Businessweek.

If you’re willing to splurge, the bike is available at the DeLorean Bicycle website.
