Gratitude is a wonderful thing.
A woman named Jillian (last name withheld on request), from Milwaukee, Wis., learned just that after she donated bone marrow to a complete stranger in July this year. She told The Huffington Post in an email that she'd originally signed up as a donor in hopes of being a match for a coworker. But when that didn't work out, she decided to stay on the list anyway to help someone else. Since the donation, she hadn't heard from her recipient and worried that the transplant had not gone well.
But on Tuesday, she received this note:
"Your selfless act humbles me," the letter says. "I can't believe that a complete stranger would take the time and go through the discomfort of donating their stem cells to me."
Jillian then posted the note to Reddit, where it received more than 500 comments.
"Thought you should know that the letter you posted just made me sign up. I never even knew it was a thing until now," Redditor Aspy343 wrote. "I want to know what it feels like to save a person's life. I bet it's a good feeling."
"You have given me more time to be with all of [my friends and family]," the note says. "That is the best gift you have given me."
