Can elephants be saved from extinction?
The latest episode of "Stop Wildlife Crime" from the World Wildlife Fund examines the illegal ivory trade and the brutal ways elephants are slaughtered for their tusks.
The trade extends well beyond the countries where the elephants are killed. Outside of Africa, there is a lucrative market for ivory in Asian countries. Experts believe demand in China is only going to rise.
Earlier this month, Zimbabwean officials arrested six men accused of poisoning 41 elephants with cyanide.
Asian elephants, including the critically endangered Sumatran subspecies, are also threatened by poaching.
New episodes of "Stop Wildlife Crime" will premiere every Sunday in September at 7 p.m. EST.
