We had a day for giving thanks. We had two for getting deals. This year we also have #GivingTuesday, a new day dedicated to giving -- when charities, families, businesses, community centers, activists, students and more all come together to harness our collective power and give back to the causes that matter to us the most.

Here at the National Black Justice Coalition (NBJC), we speak unapologetically about owning our power. Owning our power as individuals. Owning our power as a family. And owning our power as people living at the intersection of racial justice and LGBT equality. #GivingTuesday is about joining our forces and our resources, regardless of how mighty or meager, to make a real and tangible impact.

As an Arcus Foundation grantee and #GivingTuesday partner, NBJC will launch its Black LGBT Emerging Leaders Initiative highlighting young leaders in the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) movement. NBJC will seek to match Arcus Foundation and other donors' pledges to raise $20,000 to kick off this initiative.

NBJC is dedicated to cultivating exemplary leadership in our community. It is with this proclamation that NBJC has developed the Emerging Leaders Initiative. This program is purposed with identifying young, rising stars (ages 18 to 30) in the black LGBT movement as well as providing a platform and a space for standout leaders to use their voice, build networks and take action in their communities. Not only is their perspective a critical one in shaping policies, but their active involvement is essential to helping grow the leadership pipeline necessary to sustaining a vibrant, impactful equality movement.

Give more, give better, give smarter. #GivingTuesday.

It's a simple idea. Join this national celebration of our great tradition of generosity. No matter who you give to or how much you give, just give.
