Considered one of the top linebackers while playing for Boston College, according to ESPN.com, Herzlich's chances for making it to the NFL were compromised when he was diagnosed with a rare form of bone in his left leg in 2009. The Sunday night "60 Minutes" segment shares how Herzlich opted to get a titanium rod inserted into his femur, instead of a cadaver bone, because it was the only way to salvage his football career, USA Today reports.
"He's a football player. He's dedicated. He's smart. He learns very quickly," Giants coach Tom Coughlin told the news outlet. "You tell him one time what to do and he does it."
