A day after Tom Tancredo raised eyebrows by calling Barack Obama a greater threat to the U.S. than the Soviet Union or al-Qaeda, senate candidate Jane Norton used the flap as a chance to bolster her conservative credentials.
On her campaign Facebook page, Norton defended Tancredo's comments:
"There was a real measure of truth to what Tancredo said. Obama is spending this country into bankruptcy. Admiral Mullen said our debt is a greater threat than terrorism. It's time to end the culture of political correctness."
On Thursday, Tancredo told supporters of Norton's opponent, Ken Buck, that he believes Barack Obama's presidency constitutes the greatest threat to the U.S. in the country's history.
After the rally, Buck--who is backed by Tancredo--distanced himself from the former congressman's comments, saying "I don't think the man in the White House is the greatest threat to this country at all."
The Norton campaign has characterized the hotly contested GOP primary against Buck as a race to the right, with the likely winner being the candidate who can best secure the conservative vote.
