Thursday: Groundhog Day Burgers(04 of07)

Today is Groundhog Day, a holiday worth celebrating despite a total lack of groundhogs. (Though it was Hollywood that gave the world the much-loved Bill Murray vehicle Groundhog Day, which is worth a celebration of its own.) And though there are no restaurants that serve groundhog (or woodchuck, or prairie dog, or vole for that matter), we're a hotbed of fine destinations for ground hog -- or at least, ground beef and ground turkey. In other words, our suggestion is that Groundhog Day be noted with a nice sloppy burger, and probably a beer as well at one of the many burger spots around town.[Also see: Musha Moves Into Pasadena]

There's also a cocktail called the Martini Scorsese -- made with gin and orange marmalade; and a Filmfestini of Chopin Vodka and an olive stuffed with blue cheese (805-884-9218).[Also see: Where to Watch the Super Bowl in Los Angeles]

Sunday: Capo(07 of07)
Open Image Modal
For those who would rather drink fine wine than watch the Super Bowl, winemaker Tim Mondavi will be hosting a dinner at Capo in Santa Monica, pouring five years of his Continuum -- a red that earned a 98 from Robert Parker for its 2007 vintage (which will be served). This five-courser runs from burrata mozzarella with black truffles to Kumamoto oysters, a BBQ Caesar salad, rigatoni with a truffle sauce, and BBQ branzino with an eggplant and zucchini galette (7 PM on; $295 per person). P.S. we're pretty sure owner Bruce Marder will be glad to announce the score.[Also see: A Look at Mario Batali's One Day Only Menu at Coast]
