Rush Limbaugh hit out at Katie Couric in the wake of reports that she is definitely leaving the "CBS Evening News."

Limbaugh read from the AP report, which he said was proof that the liberal media was protecting one of its own. Couric has never been a favorite of conservatives, and became a chief enemy of the right after her famous interviews with Sarah Palin. He was unsparing in his assessment of Couric's tenure at CBS.

"She destroyed it," Limbaugh said. "The network news ratings for CBS just plummeted."

Ironically, Limbaugh made a controversial appearance on one of Couric's first broadcasts in 2006.

He was most scathing, though, of Bauder's aside in the piece, where he mentioned that, despite its low ratings, Couric's broadcast had won the Edward R. Murrow Award for best newscast two years in a row.

If that doesn't tell you everything you need to know about broadcast journalism...what have I always said about liberalism? Failure is a resume enhancement," he said. "They circle the wagons."
